Information sent on behalf of Lincolnshire Police

Illegal Encampment Tattershall Drive area

We are aware of the illegal encampment that has been set up on public land in the Tattershall Drive area and we thank the local community for reporting this straight away yesterday. This is our best opportunity to prevent a trespass from happening and suspicious activity should always be reported to us as soon as possible.

Unfortunately due to other urgent demands on the force yesterday, including reports of violence, robberies and incidents of fraud, we were unable to attend before the site had been accessed. We always prioritise incidents according to the threat, harm and risk posed to victims and local communities.

On our arrival officers considered what action could be taken, and while police officers do have powers to ask trespassers to leave in some circumstances, these powers are difficult to exercise as a number of conditions have to be met. This includes that the land owner has taken steps to ask them to leave, which was not yet the case when we arrived. Every effort was made by officers to ensure this could be addressed quickly this morning (17 August).

We are now working alongside the landowner, SKDC, in their efforts to quickly move this encampment and this is making good progress.

(Please do not use the reply option on this alert as I am now out of the office until Monday morning)
