Theft from purse or handbag alert

Alert message sent 20/03/2019 10:12:00

Information sent on behalf of Lincolnshire Police

Dear Members,

Good Morning.
Hope you are all well.

I am writing to make yourselves aware that we have had reports of thefts from handbag.

The suspects are believed to watch their target while the potential victim is shopping in the town unaware. When the victim has used their card/cash to make a payment, at this point the suspects have identified where and how the cash/cards are stored and then they follow their target and steal the purse/wallet that contains the cards or cash.

we are working with local shops and CCTV to identify the suspects. we are also raising the awareness through the shops network and using CCTV to prevent such incidents.

May I please request you to be vigilant if anyone is watching you while you are out shopping. if you are carrying cash, please ensure the wallet/purse if secured all the time and do not get distracted if any strangers approach you. If you have to withdraw cash, please use cashpoint inside a bank if possible and ensure none is watching over your shoulder to see your PIN number.

If you suspect someone is following you or trying to distract you etc, please approach a staff member in the nearest shop and ask for help or call us directly if you can.

please see attached leaflet that may be helpful. you may see the same on shop windows in Boston as well.

Please ring 101 to report any such activity or if you have any questions.
in emergency, always ring 999.

Thanks a lot
